The Caracas Incident is the name for the disaster that happened in Venezuela that cut the world's oil supply in roughly a third. On December 21, 2012, a small meteorite hit Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. This caused the country's oil supply (a significant supply especially for the United States, who bought from these supplies to get cheaper prices) to be destroyed as well.

HistoryEdit

On December 20, 2012 American scientists at Kitt Peak National Observatory found a large unknown object had sped past Mars only hours before they had recieved information on it.. The scientists guessed that the object would probably burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. Then, late on December 20, other scientists began to calculate the size and speed of the meteor, and determined that the object would cause much probably be pulled into the Earth's atmosphere..

But, on December 21, they were too late. The asteroid struck the center part of the city, and the blast destroyed the rest of Caracas. The blast's light was seen even in as far away as the United Kingdom and the United States. On December 22, emergency relief groups were sent to Caracas, to help with the dead and the wounded.

AftermathEdit

After the Caracas Incident, many governments around the world would work on a better space protection; so a disaster on this scale could never happen again. The Soviet Union, the U.S., and China would invest in a automated satellite system that would detect (and destroy) incoming foreign objects. Many countries would end up watching their backs instead, as the fight for control of global resources started to begin.

The world's oil supply was also not affected noticeable. Though gas prices went up more than usual in the United States, the Middle East still had a vast supply of oil still left for most of the world to use.
